Giuseppe Salvioli iniziò la sua attività intellettuale come giornalista, scrivendo sui periodici di area democratica attivi nella Roma di Depretis. Si schierò per un progetto complessivo di rinnovamento sociale che incalzava i governi della Sinistra. Durante il viaggio di perfezionamento in Germania continuò la collaborazione con i giornali della capitale. Nei suoi scritti e nelle sue corrispondenze valutò criticamente l’esperienza bismarckiana, manifestando perplessità sul militarismo prussiano e le resistenze che incontravano le iniziative riformiste più ambiziose.

Giuseppe Salvioli began his intellectual activity as a Journalist, he wrote in democratic magazines in Roma, where the political role of Depretis was important. He really wanted a comprehensive project of social renewal which engaged the Gouvernment of the Left. He continued to collaborate with the newspaper and the journals of the capital during the training in Germany. He critically assessed the bismarckian experience in his writings and correspondences, expressing perplexity over the Prussian militarism, and over the resistance to the growing ambition and reformist initiatives.
