This review concerns an innovative work by Michele Prandi in which the author tries to found anew rhetoric. The main assumption of the book we are talking about is that the meaning of an utterance does not coincide with the communicative intention of the speaker. The volume puts forward the hypothesis that meanings and messages must be dissociated, as they belong to essentially autonomous orders of facts. Furthermore, Prandi highlights conceptual conflicts in figurative language and identifies coherence as a basic criterion to bring a satisfactory textual interpretation.
