Collocabile ai primi anni del XV sec. e con ogni probabilità esemplato a Roma, il ms. Vat. Lat. 7654 trasmette una silloge di testi religiosi in prosa (un’Armonia evangelica) e in versi (laude drammatiche e non, Leggenda di san Cristoforo in ottave, Passione di Nicolò Cicerchia) che ha già variamente richiamato l’attenzione degli studiosi. Il saggio procura una nuova edizione critica e commentata (dopo quella di Marco Vattasso, 1901) dei due testi drammatici dedicati a san Giovanni Battista: Nativitate e Decollazione. Il lavoro è corredato dalla descrizione del testimone, dall’analisi letteraria dei due testi, e dall’esame delle questioni filologiche, metriche e linguistiche riguardanti le due laude.
Dating back to the first years of the XVth c. and probably executed in Rome, ms. Vat. Lat. 7654 displays a religious collection involving texts in prose (a Gospel Armony) and verse (laude drammatiche, a Leggenda di san Cristoforo in ottava rima, Nicolò Cicerchia’s Passione), and has variously attracted scholars’ attention. This essay provides a new critical edition (following the one published by Marco Vattasso in 1901), completed by a comment, of the two dramatic texts devoted to saint John the Baptist (Nativitate, nativity, and Decollazione, beheading). The work is accompanied by a description of the ms., by the literary examination of the texts, and by the analysis of the philological, metrical and linguistic features of the two laude.
