Donne e bambini, presenti in gran numero nel mondo del lavoro nell’Ottocento, sono sempre stati esclusi da qualsiasi genere di protezione legale o sociale. Nel corso del XIX secolo si sono sviluppate le società di mutuo soccorso, enti in cui i lavoratori potevano trovare assistenza in molte situazioni di bisogno. Il saggio indagherà come le donne e i bambini, rimasti senza alcuna tutela fino alla fine del secolo, abbiano trovato in queste associazioni operaie alcuni tenui benefici.

Women and children, numerically present in large numbers in the world of work in the 19th century, have always been excluded from any type of legal or social protection. Since the nineteenth century, mutual aid societies have developed; these were places where workers could find assistance in many situations of need. The essay will investigate how women and children who remained without any guardianship until the end of the century, found in the workers’ associations some tenuous benefits.
