Nel presente lavoro ho cercato di dimostrare che il sirventese BdT 282,21 di Lanfranc Cigala non è da considerare, come finora avvenuto, un canto d’argomento storico, bensì un componimento ‘comico’, derisorio, caricaturale. Il bersaglio degli strali del trovatore genovese è stato da me individuato piuttosto che nel conte Raimondo VII di Tolosa nel ‘re’ dei giullari Raimon Guilhem, di probabile origine transalpina e documentatamente attivo nell’Italia settentrionale intorno alla metà del Duecento. Ho ravvisato nei primi mesi del 1246 il terminus post quem per l’elaborazione del testo satirico a noi giunto.
In this article I argue for reconsideration of Lanfranc Cigala’s sirventes BdT 282,21. Though long held to be a song written on an historical theme, I suggest that the piece is better understood as a composition of a derisory nature, a caricature. The target of the Genoese poet’s jeering taunts is not Count Raymond VII of Toulouse, but may be identified more appropriately as Raimon Guillem, ‘king’ of the troubadours, whose origins were quite likely transalpine, and who was, without doubt, active in northern Italy in the middle of the thirteenth century. A review of textual evidence allows me to state with some certainty that the early months of the year 1246 are a secure terminus post quem for the composition of the satirical text.
